Ready to Fly!

We got checked in at Delta and all our planning worked out smoothly - we had all the documents we needed and are checked through  all the way to Bilbao, Spain !

The Delta Skymail Lounge is very cool with plenty of free food and drinks - flying Delta One is awfully nice 

The map with the blue markers shows all the places we are staying starting on the right with Pamplona moving left all the way to Santiago de Compastella on the left.  Total distance of roughly 500 miles but we are walking 300 miles total.  The total time is 35 days but we stay several places for 3 nights in order to get some rest.  

Travel time to Bilbao is about 13 hours and then a 2 hour drive to Pamplona.  We get there tomorrow afternoon and and will work to stay awake until at least 8 PM and then we will hopefully get a good nights sleep.  

Our flight is on time and we are so very excited to start Wonderful adventure !

Camino 2023

Dianne and I have scheduled our next Camino walk for April and May 2023. We have chosen the Portugese route starting in Lisbon, Portugal and finishing in Santiago, Spain. We will start our walk on April 15 and finish on May 30. The total distance will be roughly 400 miles and we have about 33 days when we will be actually walking. The walk is south to north so hopefully that helps with the weather since it will warm up over those 7 weeks. We are very excited and look forward to another experience which is both physical and spiritual.

Made It To Sarria

Today we traveled to Sarria which is the town you need to start at to get your Compostela in Santiago. You need to walk 100 Km and Sarria is just beyond that point. We started our walk in a small mountain town with a single street and many Pilgrims. Our walk went smoothly and had a short climb but then descended 1,500 feet to Sarria. Along the way we saw more cows being moved - they went right by us after we had finished our lunch. The trail was generally in good shape and moving forward we expect the trails to improve due to the higher traffic. Many of the trails were thru the woods with plenty of shade. The fog hung around till about 11 so kept things cooler. We are staying in a wonderful B&B up in the mountains built from a ancient building. The ceilings are original and so are the walls - we look out over the hillsides of hay. Very special. Tomorrow begins the final 6 days of walking into Santiago. We are very excited.
