Into the Mountains We Go

Our day started in Astroga and we really enjoyed the hotel with the first air conditioning we have had in Spain. The problem was that Jack set the temp too low for Dianne and she was cold all night. Next time Dianne gets to set the A/C temperature. The walk took us into the mountains where the temperatures dropped as we went higher and at the end we hit some rain. The path was very good mostly along less traveled blacktop roads. The scenery was foothills with some crops but everything rose up to the mountains all around us. We walked thru many different types of trees and thru smaller and smaller villages. We did see some wild lavender which was kind of fun. The final stretch was thru the woods and on broken trails as we got closer to Rabanal. Ahead of us the clouds were building and getting darker. It started to rain with less than a mile to go but we still stopped and got on rain gear. We finished the walk thru the town of Rabanal with just 50 people and we stopped at the small church. Comparing the Catedral in Astroga to this small chapel in Rabanal was interesting. Both are important to the city they are in - the center of the lives of the people who live there. Very different sizes and costs but both equally important. Our Inn tonight was very interesting. It is multi level and has a bar and restaurant and rooms all intertwined. We just finished a wonderful dinner and will be in bed early tonight. Tomorrow we will be at the highest point along the entire Frances Camino route at 5,036 feet. It should be amazing.
