Arrives at Burgos

It was a shorter day of 13 miles with the last 5 thru a beautiful parkway along the river.  Just got back from a spectacular dinner with a wonderful salad followed by a perfectly made prosciutto pizza and finished with two desserts!  Such a special day.

The day began in fog as we climbed up to 3,500 feet.  There was no view from the peak in fog but as we descended it cleared and we could see across the valley.  The walk was mostly on trails which was good - thru small towns that had been there for centuries.  We were not in a rush so that also made for a relaxed journey.  

Our Casa last night dated back to the mid 1800s with exposed beams and plaster construction.  The dinner was wonderful as usual and we slept well.  Small room but we looked out over the countryside.  

Tomorrow we jump ahead to Formista and get ready for several days of waking thru ancient towns headed toward Leon.

Camino 2023

Dianne and I have scheduled our next Camino walk for April and May 2023. We have chosen the Portugese route starting in Lisbon, Portugal and finishing in Santiago, Spain. We will start our walk on April 15 and finish on May 30. The total distance will be roughly 400 miles and we have about 33 days when we will be actually walking. The walk is south to north so hopefully that helps with the weather since it will warm up over those 7 weeks. We are very excited and look forward to another experience which is both physical and spiritual.

Made It To Sarria

Today we traveled to Sarria which is the town you need to start at to get your Compostela in Santiago. You need to walk 100 Km and Sarria is just beyond that point. We started our walk in a small mountain town with a single street and many Pilgrims. Our walk went smoothly and had a short climb but then descended 1,500 feet to Sarria. Along the way we saw more cows being moved - they went right by us after we had finished our lunch. The trail was generally in good shape and moving forward we expect the trails to improve due to the higher traffic. Many of the trails were thru the woods with plenty of shade. The fog hung around till about 11 so kept things cooler. We are staying in a wonderful B&B up in the mountains built from a ancient building. The ceilings are original and so are the walls - we look out over the hillsides of hay. Very special. Tomorrow begins the final 6 days of walking into Santiago. We are very excited.
